1983 Kramer with Star Inlays

Post by jsm610 » Fri Nov 24, 2023 10:40 pm

Hi!

I bought this as a '1983 Kramer American' and was wondering if anyone might know something about it. I would have bought it around 2009...

Notes:
- Different blue than the Sambora blues I've seen - darker
- Plugs where switches would be
- Gold pickups
- Kramer American on headstock
- Made in USA stamped on neck plate.

I don't know very much about Kramers but i've played many, and I have an older Stagemaster and a ProAxe and this 'plays similar' to them and the build quality looks like other Kramer American's I've seen...

But: any info or guesses are welcomed!

Later than 1983 with American script and pointy headstock. Is it an E plate maybe ... looks 1986 onwards.

Looks far better in blue that the white Samboras,

They came out in 1987 in flip flop blue and candy blue. That looks like candy blue to me.

No idea what the pickups are, I guess it lost the switches when the pickups were swapped. The bridge doesn't look straight, is one of the tremolo posts leaning?

It's a 'B' plate.

Ok - I just saw that in the literature - candy blue would match the 'look'. Anyone have a picture of another candy blue? I'll have to look at the bridge - it doesn't look straight in the pics but i didn't notice that playing it lol.

Would the 87+ ones not have the string tree?

It should have a tree ... maybe its a new old stock project if never drilled.

I would kinda expect gold hardware. shrug
B plate sounds like a JDM.
But let's face it, someone buys a Kramer b/c it has a Floyd.

Black hardware was an option on blue candy per the literature...

I'm assuming JDM = Japanese Domestic Market? Would a Japan guitar have the 'Kramer American' on the headstock and 'Made in USA' on the neck plate? #newbie. :)

B plate is a completely different era (Beak headstocks) and pre-Sambora, which is 1986 onwards and pointy / American scripting http://www.vintagekramer.com/sambora.htm

I'd say its potentially firesale NOS parts which explains the old plate and missing thing tree drill holes.

Indeed, assuming all is original factory.

The Floyd Rose "Original" might suggest this as well me thinks?
