Pretty certain the '05 plate was once black fwiw. My '84 factory second (with black hardware) is 30 some serials earlier than that one.
I thought the 1984/The 84 guitars had 1984 stamped on the neck plate?

Well I'll be damned, you're right. I hadn't even looked at it closely enough yet to notice that. Sure enough, it's black on the back, and you can see it's still black in the countersunk edges around the four screw holes.

So what do we think it came off, a Yo '84?
I got that one a little while ago from MeanStreet, but he didn't say where he got it.

I think those were post-Yo. "The 84" rather than the Yo "1984."

My memory is a little shot though. At least the 2nds had serials. shrug

Nearly 100% sure it was a Yo "1984" factory 2nd.

I'm pretty certain that Yo wasn't selling any others with black plates like that in 2005, or possibly ever. Certain enough that I'm not even going to check the wayback machine. It's so close to the serial on mine too.

Maybe someone was trying to turn it into a factory 1st at one time. I remember that at least one forum member did that like 18 years ago. shrug

Interesting to see that brassy color underneath the plating. :thumbs

That rings a bell actually. I forget the situation. Shwaybro?

Do you know what year the yo is? Serial on the headstock I presume?

Either way, D's plate looks like mine. 05113X shrug

Thanks. Gotcha. I guess they switched to serial plates for the seconds.

They may even have had a couple variants for the seconds. I forget, but that's sounding familiar from other forum input.

Gibson for ya!

I can’t seem to find it right now. Putting thought to it I think it’s a banana logo stamp and if so most likely a striker, correct? Not 100% sure though I’ll take a picture when I find the darn thing. shrug
