Just got it.
It was packed as poor as it could have been. I don't know if any damage was done in shipping because the original listing pic's were sooo bad.

I can feel a little lip at the scarf joint. However. I don't think that is a problem because I have owned a dozen of these and they were all the same.

My first impression was. Gross. It needed some cleaning. Might need a little more on the back of the neck. I think it absorbed a lot of nicotine at some point in time. Yellow crap is still coming out of the maple pores.

The elephant in the room. The routing. I wouldn't say NOT angry beaver. Maybe more drunken novice beaver with old teeth.
To my eyes it has routing done by a novice with a Dremel. That is why it is so disjointed. I have seen worse though. It is definitely Maple. Looks like it took a whack and it made the paint chip at the body joint. I have seen this before also. The body is an early 83 body with the truss rod route in the body.
The frets are pretty much gone. The most likely result of a novice filing frets down. It will likely need a refret.

The good stuff.
The EMG's were a matched set. They looked mismatched in the seller pic's. They are a 57/66. They might be good to keep or sell. Hardware is all original. Jack wasn't F'd up. The finish is pretty good accept around the routed areas.

So much for quick flip. That isn't going to happen.

My choice is to part it out, or set it in the project pile. Down the line figure out how deep to go down the rabbit hole.

Overall it is in better shape than I expected. The mod's could have been done much better. It wouldn't take much to make the routing look better. I have too many projects to want to deal with filling the pickup hole and refinishing it.

What would you do?

Found some KOOL writing on the neck.
The initials MDJ in marker, DVR 8/10 in light pencil, and I think JON 8/14/84 in ink.

Maybe Jon assembled it on 8/14/84

Too bad the routing is such a hack job. vomit
But let's face it, someone buys a Kramer b/c it has a Floyd.

I'd stick it on the project pile, it'd be nice to see it saved.

I have the Floyd Rose and neck plate disassembled and soaking in Evapo Rust. It had some pretty nasty junk all over it. The Evapo Rust will clean it up nice. Once I get that cleaned up I will get it mostly reassembled and throw it in the project pile.
As I gather the correct parts to do some sort of build with it.

One option would be to clean up the routing. Repair the small chip out by the neck pickup. Do a little touch up work with paint. Re-fret the neck. Refinish the back of the neck. Install 2 vintage Schaller pickups and a correct Schaller pickup ring for the neck. Then sell it with the neck pickup mod. I don't think it looks that bad. Not something I would do to a vintage Baretta but I fix guitars, I can't fix stupid.

The second option would be to re-fret the neck, refinish the back of the neck, repair the bridge hum route. Fill the neck route and refinish the guitar.

What ever I decide to do. It will be a minute. I gotta other things to do before it.

I think the yellowed headstock looks pretty cool tbh.

I don't know if I took good pic's of the before of this Floyd Rose.
It was really gross. To be honest I thought it was going to be beyond repair. There was a hard black and brown gunk all over it. I thought the black powder coating was coming off the parts. It had that same look like the paint was starting bubble from rust underneath.
The brown junk looked like molasses. All the saddles were frozen, and stuck to the base plate. Even after a good scrubbing with a toothbrush, Dawn dish soap, and hot water.
I disassembled everything and it looked really bad. After soaking over night in Evapo Rust. I just checked it. The goop was coming off. More amazing is the finish looks great. It looks like it will be in amazing condition. The saddles have freed up, and move with no issues.
The saddle string blocks are still stuck. A day or more soaking should fix that.
I will have to repaint the screws, that is normal.
All the rust and gunk and crap is gone. That was some pretty gross stuff. That is the reason I DO NOT use WD40 or any oil. The oil coating collects dust, dirt, gunk, rust, and everything else. It also can make the parts get loose, get under the paint and screw up the paint.
A long time ago I switched to the method I use now and it never fails me.
A toothbrush, Dawn dish soap, hot water cleaning. Then a soak in Evapo Rust. Then clean again with Dawn and hot water. Dry. Then a rub down of all parts with Carnauba car wax. Right now I am using Mequiar's wax.
The wax is great because dust, dirt, grime, sweat, water, beer, or anything else won't stick to the parts. It also keeps it from rusting. When I am done I will see if I have before and after pic's.

I am glad it cleaned up. These early FR's are hard to come by.

That pic came out really weird for some reason. It isn't that yellow. It is normal for them to yellow more than the bodies. This one is really close to the body color.
Just crappy lighting or something. A bad pic.

Nasty before pic's.
Yes, I used a disinfectant before really touching it.

I say save it. Refret, scrub it till it’s safe to touch and fit the vintage schaller pickups. Sell the EMGs to get some cash back. Looks like it could be a great player rescue. Too many of these get parted out. I like it. I rescued a Baretta with similar mods. It’s either a 85 or 84 has the same truss rod notch in the body. Mine needed a full refinish too which took forever and the paint is cracking but it’s a great player and sounds really good. I don’t regret it
