NGD : 1988 Nightswan

Post by wizball » Sat Nov 20, 2021 1:47 pm

So it arrived & what a beauty it is, gloss black finish with only a small ding on the front behind the high E trem side & a couple of light scratches on the rear otherwise the black is deep & shinyImage
Original pups that sound great, just the toggle switch that isn’t original, it had a white tip, now has a black one, frets in great shape, some wear but loads left in them, ebony board is pristine as is the headstock, again deep shiny black.
Plays & sounds awesome, I even like the R1 neck widthImage
Originally my thoughts were to flip this on but now I’m not so sureImage

So a question for all you knowledgeable peeps out there, there is some thoughts that the larger toggle switch as is on this was actually an original fitment on some earlier Swans, can anybody confirm or deny???
Wiring on this seems to be all original as do all solder joints!

Larger switch is normal on the Swan.
I don't always listen to RUSH, but when I do, so do my neighbors.

I have Swans with both.
Since none of my Swans were ever bought new, accept my reissue. I don't know what is original.
I know the smaller mini toggle is absolutely correct. You can't really make the mounting hole smaller without doweling it and refinishing some paint. Most of the Swan's I had were mini toggle.
On my very first Swan. I had to replace the mini toggle and at that time I could only find a larger Les Paul style toggle. So I made the mounting hole larger and used that. The larger switch is easiest to use in my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kramer used both. They were known to use anything that was available.
