So this guy makes a shim for the nut from a 3D printer. He sells them as well. Pretty cool🤘

Great stuff

Have inspired me

But

I am getting confused on the Floyd Rose special (is a special size needed???) and if I need R2 or R3 for the nut ????

Got graphtech nut, musiclillly locking tuners and a jbjr to swap in as well

Cheers all

I don't own one of these, but since you haven't gotten a reply yet...

Special size what for the FR special?

R2 and R3 have different string spacing (google has specs). You can measure your current string spacing to determine which is more appropriate for your application.

If you're going with a non-locking graphtech nut, you won't need to worry about R2 or R3.

Hopefully that helps some.

A Baretta Special neck needs an R3 Floyd nut.

Trust me. :thumbs

Got a new ruby red a while back that I'm putting a FIoyd on. Scraped all the finish off the fingerboard and did some fret work. I have a Floyd Special that I upgraded with SS and brass fine tuners. But I think that I got the wrong size nut, I got a Gotoh GHL-2 which has a 15.75 radius and the R3 has a 12 inch radius. So I'm just going to order an R3. I got a copy of the original STL file for the 3D printed nut shim. The 3D printed nut shim sits a little wonky and the Gotoh nut sits way too high. So I'm going to flatten out the nut area and just make my own shim to build it back up.

Would a piece of pickguard or backplate material be thick enough to build up the shelf? I'm not worried about it being a little low since the Gotoh nut came with 3-4 brass shims.

Also, the truss rod route looks like it only leaves a mm or less for the screws to grab the wood which doesn't seem ideal to me. Has anyone done an old school back mount thru the neck ? If so what was the process?
