Beat me to it sixstring.

Must watch the documentary on Amazon Prime video. When Getty Lee and Alex Lifeson claim that Gordon is/was the best Canadian musician ever; that goes to say.

R.I.P.
Seems like he toured right up to the end.

He wrote some great songs, some of which are timeless. You can play Sundown to a person of any age and there's a good chance they will like the song.

Just learned Sundown. Capo on 2nd fret. Hell of a songwriter and story teller. Edmund Fitzgerald weaves an amazing story. I think he read about it in Newsweek and penned the song.

Nick Beato nailed it. Every time I have heard that song, Whitney Houston's lyrics would pop in my head. Amazingly I just came across this.
In 1987, Lightfoot filed a lawsuit against Michael Masser, the composer of Whitney Houston's hit "The Greatest Love of All", alleging plagiarism of 24 bars of "If You Could Read My Mind"; the transitional section that begins "I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow" of the Masser song has the same melody as "I never thought I could act this way and I got to say that I just don't get it; I don't know where we went wrong but the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back" of Lightfoot's song.

Lightfoot stated that he dropped the lawsuit when he felt it was having a negative effect on the singer Houston because the lawsuit was about the writer and not her.[8] He also said that he did not want people to think that he had stolen his melody from Masser.[9] The case was settled out of court, and Masser issued a public apology.

Another one of the greats that will be missed by so many, but still immortal because of the music he left for everyone to hear and enjoy. As with many, my first exposure to Gordon was "Edmund Fitzgerald". But after hearing that at a far younger age (I was 15 when it was released in 1976), I soon acquired an 8-track tape (yes, I'm that old) called "Summertime Dream"; the album that "EF" was on. One of the songs on there, "I'm Not Supposed To Care", transcends time....the way so many of his songs do....and it still touches deeply.

Not sure if there's a rotation to the lineup of the Hereafter Band, or if all the ones that are lost to us play at the same time.....either way, it's one hell of a show.

R.I.P. , young man........fair weather is your reward.

Sailors pray,
For fair winds and a following sea

The smell of salt in the air,
The feel of their skin as it's touched by the spray

An albatross soaring above,
Dolphins in the ship's wake at play

To witness a work of art that only God can create,
The sunset at the end of day

At night a million stars in the sky,
Safe anchorage in an islands lee

When the time comes to die as for all it must,
To awake in Sailors Heaven where nothing ever rusts

And always there would be,
Fair winds and a following sea
