For me, I might be more inclined to just use a proper router template to square everything off so all the recessed lines are straight and symmetrical, use the post inserts like they are.....

LOL, nah. I had one of these brand new in 84 so it's got some sentimental value to me. I'm going to do my best to repair the original body. I may buy a replacement body for a temp solution so I can play it a bit. Anyone make a decent, accurate repro body for an 84 era 'retta?
