One more issue - if you play something like Marshall or similar, JB works much better since these amps can't reproduce the deep bass and they also add some grit in the mids. The described hollow tone is what you will rather get from an "american" type amp with 6L6 and broader EQ like my XXX.

That's a trip! I'm not a big fan of the JB in maple or even poplar (if memory is right). High end feels too icepicky to me. I prefer alder with more American amps, and recently have become fond of maple with marshalls. So basically, pretty much the complete opposite again lol. That's strange.

shrug

Either way, the pointy Charvel/Jackson bolt-ons with rosewood boards do seem have a particular sound to them that seems a bit warmer than a lot of super strats (at least when comparing like body wood). Maybe it's the high ratio of rosewood to maple, nut seated on rosewood, slim/wide neck shape, idk, they just have that sound. Short scale, maybe even warmer?

Yup, short scale = less string tension = less highs

Tastes will change over time, but I do want the guitars to stay within their character if you know what I mean. I mostly use Pearly Gates or Custom Custom but this is a metal axe and should also properly sound like one, with lots of bite and all. Basically like the stock pickup but just a bit warmer and smoother.

For sure! I'm interested to hear how the C5 works out. Sounds like a great potential match.

Sorry I meant the SH-5 Custom. The C5/SH-14 is too scooped I think.

Just installed the DMZ SuperD/Liquifire set and these fit perfectly. I expected the SuperD to have too much treble, but it doesn't - sounds like a more polished version of the stock pickup and removed the frequencies that I found too annoying. Very nice. Liquifire in the neck position is just beautiful, like in most 24-fret axes.

Finish line reached, happy now :headbang

Warning to Takeuchi users who want to upgrade - the Schaller R2 nut does not fit 100%. The mounting holes are a bit off so it sticks a bit out to the treble side. Also while the width is the same, Schaller has a bit wider spacing, so including the mentioned offset, the thin e gets a bit too close to the fretboard edge for my taste.

Long story short, left the original nut inside. No need to replace it since the quality is fine - I just wanted to have the matching Schaller nut, but it's not important.

thats not any real worry. the locking nut they made for that unit is quality stuff. if it was the ghetto version the TRS then it would be some soft stuff but like you said its the model with the adjusting screw for the trem bar on the block. thats the sign of the high end Takeuchi. I think some of these ones have brass blocks too. I know the model used for washburn high end models had a brass block.

Looks similar, except that the block is not coated. This is mine:

Already in Ebay, together with the other Charvel/Schaller floyd. The latter seems to generate more interest so far though.
