Yeah, Yngwie didn't lift that riff from Ritchie Blackmore. It's a blatant ripoff of Rainbow's Spotlight Kid, written 2 years prior.
Surprised that didn't end up in a law suit unless they wrote the song with Graham Bonnet and each created different versions.
Always a cool riff and vocal (other parts have aged badly - the keyboards and the fiddly diddly jig part) ... not played that Rainbow track since 1983 - always kicking myself for not seeing them at Liverpool Royal Court that year when they played 2 dates. My paper route income only covered the odd concert ticket and vinyl.

Never really listened to, or got into John Petrucci - checked this out as it's in the latest Guitar Player magazine best 50 solos of all time. Plus people saying things like "the greatest prog-metal solo ever written".
Technically he covers a lot of areas and impressive technique for sure - but for me, lacks emotion and is video gamey. It's like a thrashy Rush song with very obvious Steve Vai influences. Will have another play and see if it grows on me at all.
