worst case you could put some of those graphite strips along the sides to hold it all together from slipping side to side.

Very informative post. For me, this is a key reason why I've stayed away from luthier joint banana necks. It's unfortunate, because they belong on some of the most iconic Kramers, but the risk is too high. I would say that the majority, maybe 2/3 of Sports banana necks, have at least a slipped joint. Not sure that they all separate eventually, I've seen one with a slipped joint that had a higher first fret installed and that fixed the nasty first fret buzzing issue common to these necks.

I've got at least one that's been under continuous string tension since 1985 or whenever (E 0047 or something like that), and it's fine, no issues at all.
