Please Help, Striker 300ST Wiring

Post by brandolfyr67 » Tue Sep 19, 2023 4:05 pm

So I got this guitar from my friend, and he totally screwed the wiring it looks like, the coil tapping switch was completely bypassed and I can't find a Kramer Striker 300ST wiring diagram to save my life. If anyone can help me, I ended up using MS Paint to draw the wiring of the guitar because its just too messy to actually see whats going on from a photo of it lol, its that bad. Basically I would like to wire the coil tapping 3 way switch to where its split/not split/killswitch, and if you could point out what else i need to fix/add/remove from this wiring in order to get it working properly. I would greatly appreciate anything, thanks in advanced!

Welcome to the forum!

Here's one way to do it if I may label the prongs of the mini switch from the bottom left corner in the picture going clockwise, #1-6;

#1 wire to ground
#2 n/a
#3 hot lead from either the humbucker or from the hot lead going to the jack (depending if you want to kill just the hum, or everything)
#4 wire to ground
#5 n/a
#6 wire the series link of the bridge humbucker (sorry, I don't know the colors for striker pups).

Hope that helps!

For the rest of it, you can follow the 1986 Pacer Deluxe diagram in the tech section (ignoring wire colors).

We're here for questions. :thumbs

ok thank you. So I just tested the continuity of the humbucker, which only has 3 wires (red, white, and black) plus a bare ground, and theres only 1 set of wires with continuity, the red and white wires, does that mean for the series link that I would just twist those together, or would i take one wire from each pair and wire them together? Does that mean that its already pre wired a certain way or something? every video I watch all the humbuckers have 4 wires plus a ground

Welcome! Hmm. Good questions. Unless the pickup is broken, sounds like black is also a ground. What's the DC resistance for the red, white, and red and white together? That should yield an answer I think. Full humbucker should be 8k-10k probably, singles much less. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything online for the humbucker, but I did find this for the rest of the wiring:

https://reverb.com/item/14983601-1980s- ... -humbucker

The humbucker has been replaced with something else, but it at least shows the lugs for the 5 way switch and any particulars to the striker wiring that is different from the 1986 Deluxe that I recommended (technically not the exact same, but same ends).

Usually with three wire humbuckers you have the start of coil 1, end of coil 2 plus where they join, so you can coil tap but that's about it.
