Banana replacement point TRC question

Post by fourtoos » Wed Oct 09, 2019 11:05 am

Anyone know whether back in the day if someone had a banana neck with a failed scarf joint and they received a pointy 'American' as a replacement, did Kramer send them back with a blank TRC or one with 'Pacer', 'Baretta', etc on it?

Or both, depending on weather on a given day ;)

I'd just go with the latter, looks that little bit more classy IMO.

The way I remember it happening (based on true events) at the shop a few of the necks around christmas were shit, real shit and 1 slipped while hanging on the wall. Kramer sent the shop owner 2 necks and they were both early "trans pointy" necks. 1 was for the shops slip and one was for a customer. Jim at the shop didn't give a shit as he kept the slipped neck and fixed it himself and just pocketed the pointy they shipped in. the customer wasn't thrilled about the swap but had few options as Kramers "warranty" was quite a farse. however, months later the customer returned and said they actually loved the pointy now and were glad to have it.

these replacement necks came with no holes drilled, only the tuner holes and locking nut. all of the truss rod cover, string tree, tuner anchors, and neck attachment holes required drilling.

as I remember correctly Jim was relatively pissed saying something like, "oh hey, I work for kramer now" lol

Yeah, good story. Chaos and unpredictable back then.

Surprised no one received a neck 'replacement' kit some assembly/gluing required...all the pieces but nothing put together dielaughing
