Remember, a 1983 Ford Escort list price was $6052. The cheapest new car in America is now $13,825.

1983 Kramer Retail Price List

You´d pay 1,989.90 USD TODAY for the 1983 Pacer Imperial (799 USD then). I´d say that would be a killer deal any day of the week considering the ingredients then.

But, of course, the same would hold true for any other good in the world and doesn´t take into account that the globalization and things like the comparative advantage changed the game in a lot more ways than simply "inflation".

But still, it would be a good deal to find a closet queen/time capsule Imp for 2K nowadays shrug .

The issue I have with a statement like this is that is simply accounts for the difference in money.

I ask you to consider the following. If Kramer were still in business then the guitars would not be manufactured with the same process. CNCs rule the world in 2018 which makes it faster and cheaper to produce the same product. The savings in manufacturing combined with the ability to output product much faster would result in the guitar selling for less money in today's market.

Can you image what a new FORD would cost today if they paid a union wage and used the manufacturing process of the early 1900s?

Of course none of this explains what the morons in Nashville are doing....but the net result will be put themselves out of business.

Sorry, Tony, but I was saying exactly that it only accounts for inflation and nothing else. So, no skin off my nose shrug .

You also have to consider that the management and the shareholders get a much higher percentage of the earnings nowadays, so that would neutralize the manufacturing gains. When you look at the comparable models from "big" names today, something just short of $2k is not that unrealistic. Or $1.5k but then with korean Floyd and cheaper tuners etc.

Cause it was the top of the line model at that time and looks and sounds bitchin'. :mrgreen

Nice to be reminded that candy red was $50 extra as I have a few models with that finish, although I'd take melaga purple over candy red any day.
