NTD! New Tool Day

Post by SWANTECH » Sun Apr 14, 2019 5:25 pm

New tool day, and Murphy's law.
It was time to get a new bench top 8" disk/4" belt sander for home. I found one I liked at Lowe's. A Porter Cable 4x8 5amp bench sander model PCB420SA. HA! 420. LOL.
I had to drive to the next nearest store that was 20 minutes away, my store did not have it in stock.
I get it home and open the factory sealed box. I lift the sander out and see broken plastic bits in the bottom of the box. Dangit!
I knew that they had one more in stock. So I called them and had them reserve it for me. Another drive to exchange the sander.
This time I wanted to inspect the new one. It is a good thing I did. This sander had a different part broken on it.
The people at Lowe's were great, 5 star. They swapped out the parts until I had a complete and good bench sander. They also gave me a 10% refund for my troubles.
At no time did I feel the need to get upset. I did not even ask for a partial refund.
I got it home, assembled it. Everything is good now. This looks like it will be a great tool. Knock on wood.
Now back to work. I have guitars to fix.

Sorry. Got busy playing with the new power tool. I am breaking it in by designing and making my own head stock spline routing jig.
I have 10 guitars that have head stock breaks that are in need of splines. They are are all glued up awaiting splines.
This link will have to do for now. It has been a long day.

Well I really like it so far.
I have to admit though. I wasn't feeling really confident when I got to page 7 of the manual.
When a Tool manufacturer doesn't know the difference between basic tools. I love good irony.
Although, this might explain why I have to repair sooo many Chinese guitars. LOL.

Need to get one of those... I have a Harbor Freight oscillating spindle sander, and for sub $100, it's a time saver and Godsend, next to the sub $100 Ryobi band saw.

Funny I look at those pics and all I see are: bottle opener, bottle opener, bottle opener, bottle opener...
