So I built a guitar amp...

Post by Jarrodthebobo » Wed Jan 03, 2018 3:49 am

...and its friken AWESOME :whistle :headbang

I've been missing from all personal life outside of work for 3 weeks now while I perfected and cried over this thing; but its finally all done!

I'm going to try and get some 'real' recorded tones from this amp whenever I get some free time, because the laptop mic does NOT do this amp justice what so ever! But, it's almost 4am, and I really want to show my new toy off!!

Hope ya'll enjoy!

Sounds promising via the Notebook mic :thumbs . Looking forward to hear this recorded with a good mic.

Always satisfying when what you build comes to life!

Good work!!

But let's face it, someone buys a Kramer b/c it has a Floyd.

How do the neighbors like it? :brow :poke
Cudos on the build. Most of the spec descriptions went right over my head, but did you include a 'line out'?

Thankfully we're far enough from the neighbors that their opinion doesnt matter, haha!

As for the lineout; i was considering it but i havnt implimented it yet; i was a bit concerned with the potential for the preamp to overgoose my mixer card since the preamp lets put quite a bit of volume/ gain and im not sure if my crappy recording box would be able to take it. I do want to try tho!

Built a simple effects loop into the amp right before the final stage, so the amp is now usable as a preamp if I so fit!

Unfortunately my soundcard doesnt have its own volume control so I had to tweak the padding via vst as the output was overloading the soundcard from the effects loop send.

I'm using a few different cab models the responses of an SM57 miking a v30 and a greenback) to try and emulate the tone of how the amp sounds in person. There is a dab of reverb added in post as well in order to make it sound a bit less 'dry'.

No eq tweaking has been done. I should be able to have a better demo in soon when my new recording box arrives, which has independent volume controls AND a mic pre, so I can finally record an actual clip of the amp in person.

hope you like it!

Very defined and warm sounding to my ears. Overall the Ratt-part showed the best tone imo :headbang .

That's actually the part where I swapped the amp into 'stock JCM800' mode and threw on an overdrive pedal with a slight boost (no gain) :headbang

Made some modifications and improvments to the amp.

If you want to skip the techno mumbo jumbo hop ahead like 2 minutes :roll
