Duncan Black Winter Pickups

I thought the "new" ie. 2014~2019 ones had mahogany bodies in the baretta's and pacers...maybe I'm remembering wrong.

You're right, but that's not mahogany. It's wood from the same family, not like "brother" of mahogany but more like a third-step nephew. Same kind of stuff as used in Epi's. Looks similar but sounds way different.

The Black Winter isn't as brutal as its name suggests; it's actually quite a good sounding pickup for anything that resembles hard rock. Of course it can also be brutal as you please through your basic high gain amp. Its tonal spread is an even 6/6/6 so there's not too much of anything in the mix. Mine was in a Baretta II that I had once.

Installed bridge pickup this evening. Love it! Left jazz in the neck for now. Playing live tomorrow. We'll see how it does under the lights!
