1083 The Pacer" Body- cracked floyd post repair

Post by SixStringSling » Tue Jan 16, 2018 3:29 pm

Hello Everyone... I have an original "the pacer" guitar body with a cracked floyd post (closest to volume knob). Can the cracked post be repaired to eventually use the body for a build project? My past guitar projects have been with assembly & bolt togethers. Wood working body repair is a new area for me and I'm trying to decide if this fix is worth doing or passing the body along to somebody who wants to put the time in to fix it. I wanted to use this opportunity to learn a bit about the repair process from forum members in the know and help me decide next steps for the body. Thanks in advance for everyone's help!
Best Regards,
Brett

Howdy. To clarify, is the crack in the wood in front of the post extending roughly parallel to the strings all the way to the bridge pickup route? Or is the post (screw) somehow damaged? -Steve
I don't usually find a use for this smiley :flipa , but I like so there you have it.

Welcome. There´s a sticky as to how to upload pics.
Practice cures most tone issues.

I usually just drill the posts holes deeper with a 10mm wood drill and then hammer/glue in a set of modern original floyd posts with bushings. Worked great for 95% of all cases so far.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the reply's. I'll check into the sticky to learn how to post pics. The crack is between the lower post hole and the single coil bridge pup route, parallel to the string direcion (or in the same direction). The distance between that post and the bridge pup route is pretty thin to begin with. Also, the finish around that hold is chipped away down to the wood. I'll be traveling the rest of this week & will post back when I can.
Thanks Again!
