Is it wrong that I'm more interested in buying one of these than a new Kramer? :hit
But let's face it, someone buys a Kramer b/c it has a Floyd.

EVH 5150 Series, standard and deluxe models

Well it’s a smart marketing move by EVH Gear to tweak this guitar model a bit with added hardware, solid paint colours and/or a veneer quilt top. If the neck was 1 5/8” with the usual R2 nut, I’d be inclined to look for a used one in about three years or so.

Since it’s Summer Namm reveal the headstock has grown on me... though I could never get over how odd it looked with the 5150 stripe pattern. It’s more well suited with the current colour selections despite looking a bit generic.

Not a fan of the thicker black burst edging as I’ve always preferred to see more of the stained veneer while the guitar’s edges are lightly dusted with a burst of paint but that’s subjective to everyone’s opinion and personal tastes.

Might have been pretty cool if EVH Gear produced a brand new set of signature 5150 series pickups that was voiced more closely to the original 5150 pickup or say the EVH DiMarzio’s.

In all I give EVH Gear high marks for adding another guitar series to the company’s current line up.

With the 5150 series being more of nostalgia model, I can’t help think that one can easily source third party vendors to build a Pacer Special clone while having greater control over build quality, wood and colour selections along with preferred hardware. All that or as already mentioned buy a real 80’s Kramer.

I look forward to eventually chancing upon an in-stock 5150 series model at a local Long McQuade and taking it for a spin.
