Holy Goat Oil! She'll do quite nicely, Todd.

Does anyone know if: a) this color was a bad attempt at reproducing the trans blue Pacers, or b) they started out blue, but faded to this color trans purple?

If I remember correctly, when I bought my NOS parts, the company that made them explained that they were finished with a urethane instead of polyester, therefore they faded rather quickly.

I remember that there was one of these on Reverb that was purple on the back, and the front was totally faded to a natural wood color.

I wasn't aware of these fading guitar finishes. Thanks for pointing that out. All I know is that the goat man had all body blanks. No finishes on the bodies. Even the necks didn't have any fret wire on them. Some of the necks didn't even have the beak shape cut out yet. After sealing the wood on my body, he did a two part stain process. First was a trans magenta, then blue over that. After the blue went on top, it became super dark in natural lighting. It almost looked black unless there was bright light shining on it. That's why we went with holo on top. Here are some additional pics.
