I mean high-end as in regular ESP Horizon (being like a "real" Stagemaster) or US HSS Strat ( = Pacer), not some $3k custom shop stuff.

I agree with your reasoning but just don't think Gibson is willing to take a risk with no immediate/fast reward visible.

I know they won't do it. They're using the Kramer brand as a way to write off a loss to offset profits in the Gibson lines. It's nothing more than a tax situation for them. Which, is a shame.

Wow. I guess I'm just particular. So Dr. Scary you're saying the Vintage Pacer is their best playing model they have out now? They're relatively cheap when you find them.

Sorry, guys. I somehow lost track of this post.

I actually use the Pacer Classic. Not the Pacer Vintage. To be honest the Pacer VINTAGE is the better guitar. But the weight is not something I personally can handle for three hours a night. They are maple bodies. I use the Pacer Classics because they are lighter and I enjoy the Mahogany warmth. That is the Pink one Kevin did for me back then and it is still my daily driver. However I am REALLY digging the Candy Red SM-1 that I now have. I understand that you wanted it to be closer to the original but I actually like the SM-1 better than an original Stage Master. (don't flame me. hahaha)

Flame on!!!!
My problem with the SM-1 is the neck. Not the look or tone although the tone is different. Maybe from newer electronics and pickups. I did finally get my Stagey back. I'm loving it. The Pacer Classics are relatively cheap around here. I'm not a fan of the big c radius necks or the R5 necks either. I'm not as good of a player as most though. My Pacer Special is heavy as hell too. I get a headache after about an hour of playing it.

The Pacer classics are very cheap for what they are. Best bang for the buk PERIOD is the Baretta Special. I have 8 of them. They are perfect for in the studio and having them set up for all different tunings/pickup configs (although most are the stock pickup). :thumbs
