Same exact body in original finish with a couple spare Focus necks, could make a nice twin for your burst - "before" and "after"

Wish I could hit the lottery and I would quit my real job, hire somebody to finish my home renovations and maybe actually get somewhere with some of these guitar builds shrug

I personally like the CAR finish, Doc, but mine was just too scratched up and the edges were dinged and dented. Just go in spurts and you'll get there. Looks like you have a Focker 6000 ready to go without too much messin'.

But now I really like the look of the burst, wanna try what you did! Was the rootbeer metallic lacquer a special transparent one just for bursts, or was it just regular spray lacquer? I might wanna try similar but maybe a sorta tobacco burst with some copper outside? Did you only have to sand the top? The would make it a lot more palatable project to think about if only one face needed to be sanded.

It is a can of testors model master lacquer metallic root beer purchased at Hobby Lobby. It kind of looks like a candy finish but easy to work with. It needs some cure time, but I think the top coat of Spraymax clear gloss 2k poly is the essential part, otherwise you have a finish without any armor as you can well imagine. (This is the only rattlecan 2 part epoxy clear I know of)

If you choose to sand down that candy striker body like I did, you reverse engineer how candy paint is applied. It has a metallic silver undercoat with a translucent red finish on top. I might try one of these later, but I was pleased with the model paint in this case. For this project I only sanded the top because of severe buckle rash which needed some filling, otherwise I could have bursted the bottom as well. I would recommend a small orbital sander, but a sanding block did this particular job as I used it for stress relief.
