Not likely, quartersawn maple is quite expensive and used for necks, not bodies. Also not nearly as dark.

Color/grain looks like nato to me, but can't say for sure with those tiny photos. That's a cheap surrogate for mahogany, although it sounds nothing like it.

Quote:
Scientific name: Palaquium is a genus in the Sapotaceae family with 120 species found throughout Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Fiji. Wood from the species is also called NATO (Philippines), NYATOH (Malaysia), NYATUHIN (Indonesia) and MASANG (Thailand.) Eastern Mahogany ranges in colour from pink to red-brown. It varies wildly in weight and density and is predominately used for interior joinery, furniture, plywood and some craft applications. Recently it has found its way as a mahogany replacement in entry-level Asian-made electric and acoustic guitars. Well-known guitar brands B.C Rich and Eastwood use this species as a mahogany substitute

Still looks like that in the above pic to me

The neck pocket is lighter than the pup cavity as that has a clear over it.

Quartersawn maple body would cost more than that whole guitar new and would weigh like 4kg alone. Forget that.

Quite certain it's nato from the looks, also later pointy Foci were nato too.

I am not the expert I would like to be in species identification. The reddish color is throwing me off.
That said, l see why you originally were suspecting maple because the grain shows many characteristics that resemble it. I wish we could talk to the folks that ordered raw materials when ESP and Matsumoku were building Kramers. Sergej may be onto something, but it would be great to have such firsthand knowledge. Regardless, that looks like a pretty piece of wood so just slap it back together and rawk it.
My attitude is that good woods matter, however there are more than just 3 or 4 suitable species for electric guitars. Balsa for example, just ain't gonna provide structural integrity while oak is likely bad for the spinal column, but would hold up well. As for tone, that's almost a religious debate, but I bet a well made pickup in that JK would sound just fine to my ears.
