Hi guys, first post here :)

What can you guys tell me about this Focus 4000? The blank back plate, possible? Are they "rare"? I don't seem to see a lot of them around.. Thanks!

P.S.: The bridge pickup is a SD SH-5 Custom and I still have the original pickup.

Wow, nice Focus! The shape is not super rare, but yours is nice because often the sharp pointy corners are donked, chipped, broken. Made in Japan, good quality. Lots of guys on here know a ton more than me, so I'm sure they can tell you plenty. I'm wondering if yours had all the hardware swapped out to non-original black, especially as the neck plate looks wrong, and obviously somebody has worked on it given the pickup. If you like the way it plays, then you might have scored a great guitar! They're just tough to play sitting down tho.
Nice axe! :thumbs

Score! Nice condition.

I got one on my.local craigslist for the price of the Floyd. Buy a Floyd, get an ESP guitar free!

Defo would have had chrome hardware. Plate would've been chrome too.

I had one a few years ago. Fairly rare, Japan, ok quality like current $600-700 axes. The neckplate is obviously not original but it doesn't matter.

I found her in Mexico city for a very good price and flew her back to Montreal, Canada :mrgreen

I'm the one who installed the SH-5 pickup. Don't ask me what happened with the original one but it sounded like total garbage..

I believe the hardware to be all original * except for the back plate obviously.

* I had to change the tone pot that was soooooo rusty R.I.P.

You probably know by now, but it's worth noting that the Focus 4000 not only had the asymmetric V body, but the rarest of headstock shapes ( in terms of pure numbers). It's the chicken beak.
How do you like the feel and sound, now that you threw in the Duncan?

Pre-87 Focus all had chrome hardware from the ESP factory. Early foci had the NFT Floyds installed. The F series (post 87) had black from the factory.

So what year would you estimate it is? Is it considered to be part of the F series because of the black hardware?

And can I ask what is an NFT floyd? Thanks!

Not a big deal, but I'm still not convinced that is factory hardware, I suspect somebody just preferred a blacked-out look. Doesn't matter, just rock that bitch and be happy!

As far as using the hardware to date it (assuming hypothetically that I'm wrong and it is factory hdwr), I recently traded away an '87 F6000, and it still had the chrome hardware and chrome neck plate shown above.

NFT= non-fine tuners (on the Floyd). Not sure when they switched that, but I had an '84 F1000 in high school with fine tuners, and currently I have an '84 F3000 also with the fine tuners.
