I'm pretty sure it was ESP's investment in CNC that was the reason Kramer started getting them to supply all the woodwork. Not saying they were made exactly the same back then but they certainly weren't making them one at a time on a pin router in the late 80s.

^this. There wouldn´t have been much sense to it otherwise. They´d be cheaper today only because they´d go the route with cheaper woods and hardware.

Well to be fair, Fender and some others pretty much only raised their prices along with the inflation. Not to mention those Gibson faded models, which are a bang for the buck like no other and were unthinkable just two decades ago.
