Sort of Kramer rescue, but purists will disagree

Post by kremark » Fri May 15, 2020 12:11 am

So I found a brand new Jackson neck with a head stock break:

The decision was made to not return it to the original Jackson headstock shape, rather a Kramer tilted pointy.
I don't usually find a use for this smiley :flipa , but I like so there you have it.

Because this neck is a 24 fret with a 25.5 inch scale, I found an old performer body with a subtle flame top but a bit damaged. However, it already has the middle hole plugged and I have a nice veneer to improve upon the nice but marred top.

and I find no use for the middle PUP in this application.

Hopefully can get this thing together sooner than later.

But let's face it, someone buys a Kramer b/c it has a Floyd.

Looks good.
Practice cures most tone issues.

How did you glue that headstock piece on? is it just a tight butt joint or did you strengthen it somehow?
It may not be long, but it sure is skinny!

A titebond II held butt joint and I made a jig from 2 × 4 scrap. Just clamped for 24 hours using pipe clamps. I have no concerns about those joints failing.

Removed most of the finish, and I think the original veneer still looks pretty good, but you can see the tone pot hole got mashed and the obvious single could plug would probably be unsightly. In an alternate universe, this thing could be cleared and passed for salmon vomit
