So I picked up a Pacer C2 kind of on impulse because the hardware looks to be there and the price was decent. It is however a natural wood finish... as far as I know, there were stain/transparent color finishes but in years of looking at these I have never seen a natural finish with no color.

I suspect it's been sanded/refinished... it's an '88 or so Custom II, 7/8 sized body and diminishing headstock logo & american script. Everything checks out to me except for the finish... I'll find out for sure when it arrives but I'm still curious if anyone else has more info

Thanks

Yeah, I have seen that page before. In the second row, far right, it does actually show a pacer with natural finish. That’s an early model though, and who knows if it’s the original finish.

I was mainly asking for someone who has real life experience i.e. saw these guitars new on the wall in the late 80s

Pretty sure it's been refinished.

Vintegakramer says this

Quote:
... this list will stick to catalog offered paint colors.

So, a natural finish would have been - according to Terry´s and Mike´s research - a finish option; if an uncommon one shrug .

Well, I guess I'll find out when it shows up. I'll take a peak inside the cavities and see if there are any leftover bits of color that might give it away. Either way, if it plays well not a big deal regardless.

If it has been stripped and it's good otherwise, might be a good candidate for a holoflash or similar new color scheme. I've always wanted to do something crazy.

Update: Apparently this guitar sold before my order went through, so I'm not getting it after all. Too bad, oh well.

Thanks for the input though, hopefully someone else here got it
