I have an 86 pointy imperial, but I don't like the radius at the nut (R2) - it's too narrow for me. I buy imperials to play, so the guitar is worthless to me as it stands. First thought was to sell all the parts except for the body, and build the guitar I want using the body as the foundation. Second thought was to sell it. Any thoughts, suggestions, or otherwise?

Have you thought about an aftermarket neck to your specs? Musikraft maybe? You can have the neck every which way you want it without sinking a fortune.

I once sold a complete Deluxe because I didn´t like its neck and could bite myself in the ass every time I think of it. I wish I´d have kept everything besides the neck then. Case in point: The Imperial with everything attached to it besides the neck is a great platform. Sell the neck and partially fund your desired neck with that. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Just checked out Musikraft - that's a great option! Thanks.

I might just list it for sale so someone with smaller hands can enjoy it in it's original condition.

I guess if enough get chopped up, maybe the originals will have some value some day. Assuming people still play guitar by the time I'm eating dandelions by the root.

Ideally, what size or type of neck would you like to have on it?

R5 Sports would be my ultimate preference, but I can't seem to find any for sale. I'm listing the R2 neck on reverb. At some point this week, I'm going to take the neck off of an old Hwy 1 strat that I have and see if it lines up, plays, well, etc. I'll then go from there with additional mods. Either way, I'm going to use the body as my platform, and work it up from there: new trem, BK warpig pickups, locking tuners, etc.

BTW that's not the radius, but simply width you're talking about. Radius tells you how flat (or rounded) the fretboard is. R2 nut has a 12" radius, as does the pointy neck. Beak US necks are 10" and nanners are 16".

I dunno how much you care about it, but beaks with their 10" radius don't match the locking nut so the e and E strings will be raised at the nut compared to other strings. Most people don't care, but to me that's absolutely unplayable and drives me nuts.
