I thought about a Strat style head stock neck. But nothing really inspired me. I think it would have taken on a Strat build vibe. I just got done building and selling a few parts Strats. I am kind of burned out on them at the moment. A Strat is a Strat.
When I saw this banana neck. I felt it was a great match. Since the body was already made for an OFR trem. I wanted this to become a shredder. I want to build this guitar so that even guitar snobs like me can appreciate it.
Also. When I decide to build a guitar. It usually has to be a one off wacky thing that no one else makes. Something you can't buy some where else without going to a custom shop.
I don't want to compete with the thousands of guitar makers out in the market. To be honest. I am quite bored with the average new guitar now days.
My last personal build. Was my Strat/Tele Baritone apocalypse guitar. Tele-esque body with some Strat contours. Alder body, David Gilmore EMG set, 2 point Fender Amer trem with Graphtech saddles, a black pick guard, a Baritone maple neck, Strat head stock, ebony finger board, Stainless Steel Jumbo frets, and all in a destoyed/reliced trans black finish. When was the last time you saw a baritone Strat/Tele guitar with a trem. Then make it ugly. LOL.
That is my style. It must be unique.
I will post pic's and start a different thread about that guitar.

I never thought Deluxe style bodies looked right with a banana headstock, especially the larger grail type ones.

^ In general, I tend to agree with this. But if something is unique enough, I think it can look cool. As an example, here's one somebody posted a while back to a Facebook group. I don't imagine everybody would like it, but for some reason it works for me - sort of a juxtaposition of something very traditional-looking with the unexpected modern headstock. I say follow your muse, and we will learn the answer to the question: "Can one have too much flame?"

Wow that wood on both the neck and body are incredible. Great score!

Thought I would share.
I picked up few cool pieces for a custom Kramer inspired build I am working on. It all started when I found an 80's, 1 of a kind, hand made, 1 piece, quilt maple, HSS guitar body on Reverb for only $60.00.
It was beat up a little. It was played for 30+ years. It had a ton of red stain and clear coat. I stripped the red off, and was amazed at what was underneath. An amazing 1 piece quilt maple body. It needs some of the routing cleaned up and sanded. Then a oil finish.
I then set off to find a neck. I found an AMAZING neck by a custom luthier. The neck has a couple decades on it, but is in like NEW condition. I found the neck on Ebay and for $240.00 it was a STEAL. You will see. This neck would have cost 3 times as much from Warmoth. It has 1 5/8 in nut width and is cut to fit an R2 Floyd Rose nut, 25 1/2 inch scale length. It has a 12' fingerboard radius. C shape. It also has the standard 2 3/16 heel width so it should fit most strat style and most definitely fits 1983 thru 1985 Kramer Baretta bodies! It had 90 degree mini Schallers installed, dot inlays, 22 Medium Dunlap 6105 frets and an accurate dual acting truss rod that adjusts in the heel. There is a very high quality hand rubbed oil finish on this neck.
THEN.
I found an ORIGINAL Kramer Floyd Rose from the 80's still in the box.
The plan is to put in some Duncan's. I am going to use a custom shop 78, and 2 Vintage Rails.
This is going to take a while to get done because of the holidays.
Anyway. Here are some pic's. Lot's of pic's.
