Since I've been playing a lot of old-school blues and a ton of pre-50s music, I've realized how much I've been neglecting my metal tastes. Boy, have I missed playing like this!
Just finished a new setup of this guitar here: New neck was put on it which plays a hell of a lot better than the old one did.
Although this git was put together for blues/rockabilly music styling, it actually sounds KILLER distorted; something I never expected from the GFS gold foil alnico pups. Running this through my amp sim with a heavy tone kinda just inspired me to write something to really make the head bang; and I think this is going to be a fun project as a whole.
Still need to find someone who can program drums better than I can (or see if my drummer can actually try and do some recordings for me), but I really want to see this through and make a full album in this style.; maybe with some synth for a more operatic kind of metal.
The above track is recorded with the parts guitar above in the left channel, and my Flip Flop pacer in the right. The lead (well, the stand-in lead until I can write a good solo) is the parts guitar on the cleaner solo, and the harder edged solo is the Pacer.
As always, I'd love to hear opinions and thoughts about the song!
Should the vocals be 'clean', or scream-ish? What are your thoughts on the drums as they are? Any tips for writing a better bassline? Song structure? Synths?
Anyway, this has been long winded so I'll just end it here
I haven't been too active lately, but I do check in almost daily. Glad I saw your post. You are probably the most diverse player I know. You have lots of talent and I have enjoyed watching you progress through the years. loved your song and watched the video. In fact, I got lost in watching many others on your youtube page. Keep doing what you are doing because I can't wait to see the level you'll be playing in the years to come. Almost makes me want to give you all my guitars. I said almost.

Almost makes me want to give you all my guitars. I said almost.
Hey anytime you want to drop that 'almost', give me a call!
All joking aside, thanks for the kind words; I've actually been in a bit of a musical slump recently and had felt I hit a plateau in terms of playing ability and music writing. I had put down pretty much all of my Electric guitars for about a month, or maybe even longer (my memory is failing me ) and mainly just played Slide acoustic blues and focused on my singing which I've been desperately trying to improve.
I think the fruits of my labor have finally started to ripen vocally though; as I've pushed through some of my own limitations and hear at least some minor improvement, which I hope to show on this new song here!
But I feel like I'm starting to get back into the swing of things with the Electric; all inspired by this junk-y little parts guitar in the youtube video above . There is just something about the sounds that such an odd guitar can produce that really just makes me want to play! I mean for christ sake; I made this guitar to play Blues and Rockabilly - it shouldn't have the ability to sound so heavy, but yet it can, and it does!
The guitar is really such an amazing instrument and I'm really glad I made the jump into this world nearing 8 years ago, and the world of Kramer 6 years ago! Although I feel like I should be on a much higher level musically and technique-wise after playing for quite some time now, gradual improvement is still improvement!!
