Hey guys,

I was just wanting to get some opinions about power bricks for pedal boards. I recently picked up a Pedaltrain Classic Jr. and I am in need of powering up to 8 pedals... I am running purely boss, mxr, and wah, all needing only 9V power.

Anyhow, if you've ever looked at the "top quality" stuff, we're talking Voodoo lab power supplies... However, the issue is me justifying the near $200 price tag...

Do you guys have any alternatives to this that is maybe under the $100 price tag but still has great hum-elimination qualities? Or should I stop bitching and go with a VL power brick lol...

Let me know your thoughts :pimp

P.S. If I can mount it under my Pedaltrain board, that would be preferred!!!!

Thanks guys! I'll also be posting a thread on how to properly mount a crybaby wah to this type of board with the use of velcro :toast

I think you pretty much get what you pay for. If you don't mind noize a daisy chain job'll work. If you want it quiet you will have to pay for isolated supplies.

A quick amazon search would land me this.

At $50 bucks, that is a great price. Anyone have any experience with isolated bricks in this price range?

So far it seems that there are a lot of bricks for sale on amazon in the $50 range that aren't true isolated power supplies even though they have the word 'isolated' written on them. These are, of course, overseas made...

Looking more and more like VL is the way to go to ensure my pedals don't get fried in an unfortunate scenario shrug

Get a one spot, and try it out. If you don't get noise, you're golden. If you do, get an isolated power supply.

I've been using a one spot, and only on one occasion did I have any noise. It turned out being that the outlets weren't properly grounded.

Of course, that one time sent me on a trek to find an isolated brick. But since then, I haven't had an issue with the one spot, so it's still powering my board.

Plus another one on the one spot. I have one and it has never failed and it works just fine. Price is cheap too. I bet it's made is "Shina", but so what if it works as you need/want it too. shrug

I just bought the BBE Supa Charger on amazon with same-day shipping (I have prime membership so why not)...

Anyhow, it's listed for $88.35 which is highly affordable. Biggest thing I was looking for were true isolated outputs (this has 8 of them). Outputs 1-4 and 7-8 are rated at 100 mA while 5-6 are 200 mA. What is also nice is that the power cord is nice and rigid (3 prong). You can also power anything that needs 9, 12, and 16V. Sadly, 18V is a no go for this unit. Lastly, the thing only weighs 2 lbs and comes with all of the power cables you need to electrocute yourself...

Dimensions were also important as I may either top/under mount this supply: 6" (W) x 3.5" (D) x 1.6" (H)
These dimensions are smaller than the Voodoo Labs 2+ and the Modtone Power Plant.

The Modtone Power Plant (priced $99 on Amazon) came in at a close 2nd place for me. I just don't need the SAG options and the dimensions of the power supply are much larger, 9" (W) x 6.8" (D) x 2.5" (H), than the Voodoo Labs 2+ (priced $169 on Amazon), 12.3" (W) x 12.1" (D) x 4.8" (H), and BBE units.

One thing that all three of these power supplies have is a toroidal transformer which I learned is important for "zero-hum" qualities...

I guess I will have to wait till it arrives to see if it was a good purchase. :guns

I used this one for years, should be about $80 in the US or half as much used:

8x 9V and 3x 18V, pretty similar to that BBE one.
