After running some sound tests last week, with a friend of mine, I decided that I wasn't thrilled with the Shure SM58 any longer. For some reason, it sounded too mid-rangy to me.

I started looking into another mic, and was told about a deal that I had to give serious consideration. A friend recommended a Blue Baby Bottle. It goes for around $399 normally. But, Blue is running a special, and they temporarily have the price at $239, which is a steal by itself.

I also had a 20% off coupon from Guitar Center, so I figured why not give it a shot. I was stunned that the coupon code worked. The final amount was $191 and change for the Baby Bottle.

I got the mic and it is a very warm mic, especially in comparison to the Shure sm58. There is really no comparison between those 2 mics, they are two completely different types of mics.

I am very happy with this mic. The ratings were very high, and now I completely know why.

Not an expert on mics, but I never liked the SM58. I have one but always end up using the (much cheaper but to me better sounding) Sennheiser. I can imagine that mic of yours being a few notches better, looks like serious stuff.

Is this a vocal or guitar mic?

It's rated as a great mic for vocals as well as instruments. In preliminary test, I really love it. Very warm sounding.

Thanks for posting this...I have been expanding my vocal mic locker lately, and have really been considering something in the Baby Bottle line. You cant beat the sensitivity of a large condenser. I've always thought of SM58's as 'stage vocal mics", and SM57's as "stage instrument mics" and have never used either for recording, but I certainly can understand how this would be an improvement in clarity for vocal applications :toast

A big thanks to LesPauled for the review on this. I had an unexpected opportunity to try this out on some friends that stopped by a couple Saturdays ago. I read this in one of the reviews/descriptions online somewhere, but their consensus was that the clarity of the mic was really impressive. (I had also purchased a couple sets of AT MX40s that they were monitoring their tracking with, which helped as well). They also commented that the build/appearance gave them a sense of confidence/professionalism that was unusual for a piece of equipment to convey. The thing is built like a friggin tank, stamped serial# plate, metal shock mount and pop filter(no plastic shit here) and a really nice wooden storage case to boot. I leave mine mounted and covered just because I'm too lazy to set up when I get the urge or opportunity to record.....thanks again LP'd, definitely happy with the investment :headbang
