I'd like to try them too. Looks like regular pups with a built-in EQ and stuff in a compact package, which can be quite handy. Obviously it will require a battery, which is a may be a problem in some axes due to lack of space.

I saw that for an extra $100 they have a battery that is in the shape of your trem cavity cover only slightly thicker, so if that doesn't bother you, you just replace your existing trem cavity cover and that is your battery. It can be used for EMGs or any 9volt battery needs.

$100 for a battery? Insane, just nuts.

I have one, I had it in an F-1000 for a while. Sounded fine. Would make a good live pickup, dead quiet. I remember liking it more than EMG’s but I don’t remember why. I now have a death bucker in that same guitar and honestly I feel the same way about it. I think it would be just fine if you wanted to spend the time Dialing in your rig for it.

I’ll let you borrow it for a while if you want, you can just send it back when you are done.

I installed a strat set in a Fender American Strat for a customer of mine.
I remember I liked it better than the stock Fender pickups. They were very quiet.
They did not even come close to sounding as good as the EMG DG20 set I installed in my Fender American Pro Strat.

The other pickups I’ve been dying to try out are the Duncan black winters. I’m not a black metal guy, but from what I hear they are an excellent versatile pickup.

Try Alpha and Omega, those are really great for harder stuff (and not only for that). Pegasus also rocks, like a more modern JB. Black Winter is rather too scooped and fizzy in comparison, I didn't like it.

Chjeck this vid out, this is a really great comparison of many Duncan "Metal" models, you can hear all the fine nuances with the same riffs played:
